Quiksilver are sponsoring Thailand's first ever surf series. 2009 competitions to include the Kalim Beach “Monsoon Riders” in June, the Kamala Beach “King of the Jungle” in August, and the Kata Beach “Island Crown” in September. Collectively, the surf series mark the development of surfing in Thailand through Quiksilver’s global branding and standards.

The events are being organized in conjunction with Phuket Boardriders. I would suggest this may be a good place to start in your search for the ultimate wave!

Alas I have not made the pilgrimage to Bali yet. I did drive down to Phuket with 3 x stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP) and surfer friend who joined me brought 2 regular surf Boards. I visited the Quicksilver event at Kalim and was very impressed by the local talent and the Hard Core Surfing scene that exists in Phuket. I would highly reccommend visiting Salt Water Dreaming in Surin. They also have a brilliant website that will help you a great deal www.saltwater-dreaming.com/

However, If Phuket is too far and you want to stay in top surfing shape - I can highly recommend you cross train on Stand Up Paddle Boards while catching even the smallest mushiest waves. Or cruise inland on any body of water, while you count down sleeps towards your next visit to the beautiful ocean swells. Please feel welcome to come and test ride SUP at Amara Watersports Blue Lagoon if you have not already tried.

In the meantime I feel your need for the surf.....I'll never forget those few hours of charging down the line on my 8'5" Starboard SUP while I was in Phuket, and that was just a small day.
Check out my silly surf movie in Pattaya if you like.. http://www.watersportspattaya.com/index.php/thaitiny.html

Stay fit until your next wave session.

Best Regards,

Craig
