I've hear that Muang Thong United are gaining quite a following from the Bangkok expats. The Harrow School teachers in particular rave about the quality of football, atmosphere and the level of friendliness displayed by players and spectators. It looks tight at the top. What's your expert opinion on how the league will pan out?
I don't know if you can call my opinion expert, but I can add some commentary on what's been going on. The Thai Premier League is basically starting up this year as a fully professional league. The result is that it is taken seriously for the first time ever. Most stadiums are packed and the standard is impressive. All people involved seem to be sensing that this is the start of something special in Thailand, Thai fans are more then enthusiastic about sharing this with foreigners who visit the matches.
At the moment the leaders are Bangkok Glass, based in Rangsit. We are approaching round 14 out of 30 so it's still anyone's game. Most people are predicting a Bangkok Glass slip and the Championship to be contested between Muang Thong United and Chonburi. BEC Tero (based In Nong Jork), Osotspa (based North Bangkok) and Thai Port (based Klong Toey) are also expected to challenge. Last years champs PEA Ayutthaya, have so far had a bad season sitting mid table, but should pose a threat to the top half.
The top 2 teams earn a spot in AFC Cup next year, the Thai Champs play-off for a spot in the AFC Champions League to face the likes of Gamba Osaka and other giants of Japan, China, Korea and the Middle East.
